FAQs

Q. Will my pet be washed in cold water?
A. No, Our modern grooming vans come fully equipped and have installed a large capacity hot water tank that provides warm water for many baths.

Q. What type of shampoos do you use?
A. We have a comprehensive range of professional premium quality shampoos and conditioners. These products are natural, organic, safe, and environmentally friendly and help maintain and keep your pet looking and feeling great.

Q. How often should my dog be groomed?
A. That depends on the breed, its lifestyle and surroundings. Many of our clients have their pets groomed regularly (fortnightly/monthly) and we encourage scheduled repeat appointments. Please contact us so we can recommend a regular schedule tailored for your pet.

Q. My dog/cat has fleas, how do I get rid of them?
A. For flea removal we recommend a two step process, firstly that the pet be bathed using a Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo which will break down the hard shell of the flea. Secondly, you will need to leave the shampoo on for at least 15 minutes in order for this process to be effective.

Q: What is anal gland expression?
A. The anal glands are two sacs located at 5 and 7 o'clock in the anal area of dogs. Both male and female dogs possess these glands which scent their feces for marking purposes. I only do anal expression on request. I will feel for the gland EXTERNALLY and gently squeeze to release its contents.

Q: Do I have to be home while you groom my pet?
A. Until I get to know you and your pet, I prefer that you be home while I am there. Once we have developed a relationship we can make arrangements to work on your pet even if you aren't home. You can be assured of complete client/groomer confidentiality.

Q: Do you accept credit cards?
A. Not yet. I only accept cash and checks. Payment is due at the time services are rendered. There is a $30 service charge fee for all returned checks. When you write a check to Dirty Dog Days you agree to pay this fee should your check be returned for any reason.

Q: What if I have to cancel my appointment?
A. Cancellations must be made at least 72 hours prior to the scheduled appointment time. Being a mobile service, I only take 4-6 grooming appointments per day. A last minute cancellation cannot be re-filled, resulting in lost income. If you are not home (unless prior arrangements allow me to retrieve pet) when we arrive for your scheduled and confirmed appointment, you will be assessed a $40 No-Show Fee, per pet.

Q: My dog/ cat coat has knots and matts?
A. Dogs and cats need to be regularly brushed, particularly long haired breeds. Our professional groomers can assess your pet and recommend what will be required to restore you pets coat to a healthy condition and how to maintain it from hereon.
